Eagle stuns Capital for 5A football title
BOISE - Play for overtime or for the win? Eagle coach Paul Peterson knew the answer to that question days before it came up, and knew exactly who's hands he wanted the ball in when it counted.

Trailing by a touchdown, Mustang quarterback Taylor Kelly pulled the ball down and tight-roped the sideline to find the end zone and potentially tie the game. But Eagle, lined up for the PAT with Kelly as the holder, executed the perfect fake - Kelly running an option left, and pitching to kicker Jace Johnson who ran in untouched.

"I had planned for this a couple days ago, that if I was in this situation, we were going to go for it. That's how much I believe in Taylor; I prepared for it," said an extactic Peterson after the game.

The two teams traded turnovers and touchdowns in the first half, before BSU recruit Kyle Sosnowski took a Jeremy Powers pass 12 yards in for the score and a 14-7 halftime lead for Capital.

Kelly hooked up with Jordan Thompson on a beautiful touchdown pass in the third quarter to tie the game, but a Mustang turnover at midfield led to a Powers keeper that gave Capital the lead and set up the amazing finish.

Following the two-point conversion, Capital had a chance to win in the final moments, with one untimed down after Eagle was flagged for a penalty on what would have been the game's final play - a hail mary pass.

Capital elected to attempt a long field goal with the un-timed down that was badly missed.

The championship is Eagle's first since 2001.
