BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - While the Broncos have been up and down over the past few weeks, redshirt freshman Mikey Thompson has been red hot, and taking advantage of his new-found spot in the starting lineup.

While starting the last three games, Thompson has averaged more than 12 points, and five rebounds per game. Those numbers have head coach Leon Rice excited about Thompson's future.

"He's got a huge upside. Because he's just learning, he played in a system where he wasn't like a true floor leader/point guard, so he's learning that. So I think, two or three years, he's gonna be one that you're like, 'Wow, that kid.' Because he's hungry to learn, he's a great kid, he's a worker. He's just gonna keep getting better," said Rice.

"Coming off the bench in the beginning of the season, they wanted me to be aggressive. And now that I'm playing a lot more, they want me to keep being aggressive, especially on defense ... battling, rebounding, and creating my defense into offense," added Thompson.

The Broncos host the Wyoming Cowboys Saturday night at Taco Bell Arena. Tip time is 6 pm (MTN).
