BSU's Linehan named to Mackey Preseason Watch List
NEW YORK - Boise State redshirt senior Gabe Linehan was named to the 2013 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List Tuesday, awarded annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate tight end.

Linehan is one of 37 tight ends on the list, and one of only three from the Mountain West (Crockett Gillmore, Colorado State; Marcel Jensen, Fresno State).

Linehan, originally from Banks, Ore. (Banks HS), appeared in just four games in 2012, as his season was cut short due to an injury. As a redshirt sophomore in 2011, he started nine of his 12 games played, setting career highs in receptions (23), yards (252) and touchdowns (five).

His sophomore totals ranked second amongst Bronco tight ends, trailing only Kyle Efaw - the last Bronco to be named to the Mackey Award Watch List (2011).

The award recipient will be selected via a vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee, and will be presented Dec. 12, at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show at 6 p.m., on ESPNU.

John Mackey, the award's namesake, is considered to be the best to play the tight end position. He was a role model both on and off the field - winning a Super Bowl, serving his community and earning his place in history as the first president of the National Football League Players Association.

The award has been presented every year since 2000, and lists 12 NFL players as alumni.
