(KBOI) - Much like Boise State football, the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas has a history of lighting up the scoreboard. Over the past 20 years, schools have combined to score more than 51 points per contest. This year, things might be a little different.

With the way Boise State and Washington have forced turnovers this season, we could be in for a defensive struggle.

Because of BSU's dominance on defense, Bronco Nation's been forced to pay more attention to that side of the ball than in years past. They've been witness to the sixth best defense in the country in terms of points allowed, a top ten team in total yards allowed, and the nation's best at recovering fumbles (17).

The thing is, Washington is just two fumbles off that pace, and when it comes to total turnovers the two teams are separated by an even smaller margin, one.

It might be cliche, but when the Broncos battle the Huskies, fans should expect a dogfight.

"We're very similar defensively, quite honestly. You look, I think they're fourth in the country in creating turnovers, or third, and we're fourth or fifth, whatever that is. I think that they've created 34 and we've created 33. Both defenses are extremely opportunistic.

"They have athleticism on the perimeter. Whether it's the two defensive ends, the safety, the two corners ... those guys make plays on the football, create turnovers, they're similar to us that way," said Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian.

UW's defensive coordinator is a former Boise State defensive coordinator, so that makes sense. Broncos and Huskies kickoff their defensive duel at the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas on Saturday at 1:30 pm (MTN).
