Broncos start their season with a sweep over Bobcats
BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State men’s tennis team opened the 2014 campaign Thursday night by sweeping the Montana State Bobcats 7-0 in the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

The Broncos swept all three doubles matches then followed with victories in all six singles matches. Nathan Sereke led Boise State with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 win at No. 1 singles, while Brendan McClain won on court two in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Sereke and Toby Mitchell led the Bronco effort in doubles claiming a 6-3 victory on court one.

No. 46 Boise State improves to 1-0 on the year with a match against No. 32 Northwestern (0-0) on the slate at 1 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.

Boise State opened the night with a 6-0 doubles win on court two by Aidan Reid and Brendan McClain over MSU’s Diego Campos and Harry James. Toby Mitchell and Nathan Sereke followed shortly after clinching the doubles point for the blue and orange with a 6-3 win over Niklas Brandes and Markus Schleuter on court one. Brian Foley and Abe Hewko closed doubles out for the Broncos defeating the Bobcats’ Kenny Dodd and Martin Morillas by the score of 6-4.

McClain, ranked 14th in the ITA Mountain Region, started the ball rolling in singles with an easy straight set victory, 6-2, 6-2, over Martin Morillas on court two. Foley moved Boise State within one point of the team victory when he downed Campos 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. The match clincher came from Mitchell with a straight set 6-1, 6-2 win on court three over Montana State’s Markus Schleuter.

Boise State completed the sweep with Aidan Reid’s 6-1, 6-4 win on court five over Harry James, followed by Nathan Sereke’s win on court one. The final Bronco point was recorded at No. 6 singles where freshman Abe Hewko defeated Kenny Dodd 6-3, 6-2.
