BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - The Signing Day celebration is over, and reality starts to sink in. Including the fact one Boise State recruit, Joey Martarano, may never step foot on campus.

The would-be BSU linebacker also plays third base for the Fruitland Grizzlies. Last spring, ESPN called him the top high school corner infielder in the class of 2013. Martarano won't say if he's leaning one way or the other, but June's MLB Entry-Level Draft could go a long way in making the decision for him.

Head football coach Chris Petersen joked with the media at Boise State's signing day event Wednesday, saying Martarano really only has one option.

"I think he's got no chance as a baseball player. That's what I think. My scouting sense is he cant hit the curve ball. Just kidding Joey, we love you. Here's the thing, we'll just have to see how that goes. I know the guy's a football player, I know he loves Boise State, I know he wants to be here, and we'll just have to cross that baseball thing down the road and see what happens for him."

Coach Petersen also told reporters he's spoken with Martarano about playing baseball and then returning to Boise State if his pro career doesn't take off.
