Coming out of Fruitland High School, Joey Martarano was being courted by both baseball and college football teams.
Martarano chose to play football at Boise State. He even declined to sign a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies after being drafted by them.
This season, Martarano was once again selected in the MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs in the 22nd round. Upon hearing the news, Boise State head coach said in a statement that "Joey Martarano is a special athlete."
Today, Martarano tweeted out "Time to go play some baseball, see ya Boise. I'll be back soon! #Blessed." He replied to another tweet that he would be playing in Mesa, Arizona. That is where the Cubs have a Rookie League team.
A representative at Boise State told KBOI that this is for the Summer and it should not affect his status with the football team.
