Cubs draft two Idaho college players on Wednesday
CALDWELL, Idaho (KBOI) - Two Idaho collegiate baseball players were drafted Wednesday, both by the Chicago Cubs organization.

Lewis-Clark State College pitcher Austin Pentecost was taken in the 29th round, with the 884 overall selection.

Pentecost, from Kennewick, Washington by way of Walla Walla Community College, was 6-3 in 14 starts with a 2.82 ERA for the Warriors. He held opponents to a .204 average.

One round later, the Cubs selected Caldwell native Izaac Garsez from the College of Idaho with overall selection 914.

The two-time NAIA All-American and two-time NAIA West Player of the Year hit .389 his senior season, with eight home runs and 53 RBI. Garsez led the NAIA with a school-record 12 triples and added 20 doubles and 29 stolen bases in 2012.

His 93 hits and 75 runs scored were tops in the NAIA West region. According to the College of Idaho, Garsez was recommended by Cubs area scout, Al Geddes.

Garsez told KBOI-TV he will sign a contract with the Cubs on Friday, and that he's already been told to expect to return to Idaho as a member of the Boise Hawks.

"In college, being able to play in front of my friends and family in my hometown, that had been a blessing already," he said. "To be able to stick around and give my family another opoprtunity to see me play would be great."
