The Borah boys were one of eight basketball teams in district III (Boise & surrounding area) to advance to the semifinal round of the state basketball tournament on Thursday.

Isaiah Wright scored 21 points, leading the defending champion Lions past Madison 54-43. Borah will meet Mountain View in the 8 p.m. semifinal on Friday after the Mavericks overcame a slow start to beat Post Falls 44-34.

Rocky Mountain easily dispatched Lake City to the consolation bracket in the opening game of the state tournament on Thursday. Matt Grooms led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds in the 61-33 Grizzly win.

Friday, Rocky Mountain will face Highland after the Rams eliminated Capital 57-56. Highland sank a jumper with 15 seconds remaining to take the lead, and a three-point attempt by the Eagles with under five seconds to go was off the mark.

Defending state champion Rigby eliminated Bishop Kelly 52-49, while Skyview sent Burley to the consolation round 75-48. Friday's 6:15 pm semifinal at Borah High school between the Trojans and Hawks should be a terrific matchup.

In Thursday's other quarterfinals, Moscow defeated Emmett 65-48 and Twin Falls beat Century 52-48.

Fruitland survived a hot start from Timberlake to come back for a three-point halftime lead and eventual 59-55 victory. The Grizzlies will face eastside rival Snake River in the 6:15 p.m. semifinal at Meridian High School.

Shelley defeated Payette 60-44 Thursday night to advance. The Russets will face Filer, which beat Sugar-Salem.

Defending state champion Cole Valley Christian was knocked out of the winner's bracket in a big way Thursday, falling 64-34 to Firth. The 14-7 Cougars move on to face New Plymouth in the semifinals after the Pilgrims knocked off Soda Springs 46-42.

The 6:15 p.m. 2A semifinal at Capital High School in Boise will pit Grangeville against West Side.

Genesee meets Butte County in the 6:15 p.m. semifinal, and Liberty Charter faces Kamiah at 8 p.m. at Vallivue High School.

Salmon River and Carey meet at 1:15 p.m. Friday in the early semifinal at Caldwell High School, followed at 3 p.m. by Nezperce vs. Kendrick. 1ADII semifinals are early in the day because the title game is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
