Freshmen lead the Broncos to the MWC Championship game
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 3 seed Boise State Broncos (13-6-3, 7-3-1) defeated the No. 2 seed Fresno State Bulldogs (10-8-2, 7-3-1), 2-1 in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Tournament. Redshirt freshman KT Clayton netted the game-winning goal in the 109th minute to send Boise State to the final match of the Mountain West Tournament.

Boise State and Fresno State finished regulation play knotted at one goal apiece. The Broncos began their eighth overtime period of the season, trying to clinch the game from the first whistle. Senior Katy Oehring took a free kick to the upper left corner in the waning minutes of the first overtime period, but was wrapped up by Fresno State's keeper.

The Broncos entered the second overtime period sending many through balls to the front line, but were unable to connect for the goal. With the game clock ticking down, senior Gabby Garcia headed the ball in the Bronco half towards the left flank. Clayton streaked down the left side and beat the lone Bulldog defender, juked the keeper and buried the ball in the back post for the win and a spot in the championship match.

"I'm super-proud; it's so hard when you play this many games, they found the emotion to keep rising up," said head coach Jim Thomas. "They have such a good family bond they can lean on when it is really, really, tough. We felt good going into the game but knowing Fresno State we know we had our work cut out for us."

Clayton tallied her second goal of the season, her first coming against Fresno State on Oct. 13.

The Broncos held the Bulldogs to two shots in the first half of regulation, while Boise State took seven of its own.

The Orange and Blue created many attacks in the first half while limiting the Bulldogs to quality opportunities. Boise State found the first goal of the game in the 29th minute, when Gabby Garcia flew down the right flank and sent the ball into the 18-yard box. Garcia found Kayla Tucker who buried the ball into the far post. With the goal, Tucker found her fifth goal of the season.

In the second half, Redshirt junior goalkeeper Maddy McDevitt made a point-blank save in the 64th minute, which hit a Bronco defender and ricocheted into the Boise State net.

Boise State earned its 13th win of the season, marking the first 13-win season since 2009. The Broncos will prepare for the final match, held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the UNM Complex in Albuquerque, N.M. The Broncos will play the winner of No. 1 seed San Diego State and No. 5 Utah State in the final match.
