Middleton, IDAHO (KBOI-TV) - Victor Dias scored four touchdowns, including a 69-yard scoring run in the second quarter, as the Middleton Vikings held on to beat Bonneville 32-30 Friday night in the state 4A football semifinals.
After falling behind 10-0 early in the second quarter, Middleton responded with 16 unanswered points to take a 16-10 halftime lead on Bonneville, which lost its starting quarterback (likely concussion) late in the first quarter.
The game went back-and-forth in the second half, with Middleton breaking a 24-24 tie on Dias' fourth touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter, and moving the lead to 32-24 on the two-point conversion.
Bonneville answered that scoring drive with one of its own, pounding the ball across the goal line on fourth and short with :36 to go.
Middleton pressure forced a bad throw on the two-point conversion attempt and it was no good. Bonneville's ensuing onside-kick attempt rolled out of bounds after sneaking past a slew of Viking players, and Middleton took a knee to run out the clock.
The Vikings will face the winner of Saturday's Skyview-Blackfoot game in next Saturday's state championship game. A Middleton-Blackfoot matchup would be a rematch of the 2011 championship, won by Blackfoot.
Other local teams playing state semifinal games Saturday:
Skyview vs. Blackfoot (Holt Arena) - 7:30 p.m.
Fruitland at Timberlake - 2 p.mm MST
Marsing vs. Declo (Holt Arena) - 5 p.m.
Lighthouse Christian at Garden Valley - 1 p.m.
