Sports Overtime: Playoff picture sharpens for local football teams
With two weeks to go in all but the 3A SRV regular season, the playoff picture has started to clear for Treasure Valley prep football teams.

5A: At 7-0 in SIC play, Capital clinched a playoff berth Thursday night, and has Centennial and Eagle standing between them and the top seed.

Friday Night:

Meridian 47, Vallivue 43
Mountain View 28, Eagle 21
Rocky Mountain 61, Centennial 14
Timberline 21, Boise 14

Rocky Mountain, Mountain View and Eagle also clinched playoff berths Friday night.

Five teams will represent the 5A SIC in the state playoffs - and Timberline controls its own destiny for the final playoff spot. Meridian, Borah and Centennial remain mathematically alive for the playoffs, but Timberline owns the tiebreaker over Meridian and Centennial if the teams were to end up tied in the standings.

4A SIC:

Bishop Kelly kept an opponent out of the end zone for the second straight week, and the undefeated Knights clinched a playoff berth 28-0 over Middleton.

BK 28, Middleton 0
Skyview 28, Nampa 0
Kuna 31, Caldwell 14
Emmett 38, Columbia 14

Still in contention for three playoff spots: Skyview (5-1), Kuna (5-2), Emmett (4-3), Nampa (3-3) and Columbia (2-4). Caldwell, Middleton and Mountain Home have been eliminated.

3A Snake Rriver Valley:

Homedale defeated Gooding 27-14 in a possible playoff preview. The Trojans all but locked-up the conference title a week ago with a win over Fruitland.

Friday, the Grizzlies clinched the second of three playoff spots with a 31-14 win over Weiser. Parma earned its first win of the conference season by beating Payette 35-15. The 1-2 Panthers host 1-2 Weiser October 25 in a game to decide which team gets the last of three playoff spots in the 3A SRV.

2A Western Idaho Conference:

Melba earned a 42-12 win on the road at New Plymouth, knocking the Pilgrims out of a tie for first place - although both teams clinched playoff spots. Undefeated Cole Valley clinched its playoff spot with a fourth conference win, and Nampa Christian beat Marsing for a first WIC win this year. Four teams will represent the WIC at the state tournament this year - all six teams remain in the playoff hunt, but only Cole Valley, Melba and New Plymouth have clinched.

Idaho City moved to 2-0 with a win over Greenleaf, and Notus beat Rimrock to tie the Raiders at 1-1 in the conference standings. The four-team conference has two playoff berths into first-round matchups against teams from eastern Idaho.

Idaho City 52, Greenleaf 0
Notus 20, Rimrock 0

Next Friday, Idaho City can clinch the top spot with a win over Rimrock, and Notus could earn the second berth by beating Greenleaf. If Rimrock and Notus both win, the three teams would be tied at 2-1 and would be forced into a Kansas-City playoff to determine the two playoff teams. Greenleaf has been eliminated from playoff contention.

Salmon River took a commanding lead over the rest of the conference with a 56-8 thumping of Garden Valley Friday. Garden Valley's loss combined with Council's win moved the Lumberjacks into second place in the two-berth, seven team conference.

Council and Tri-Valley play one more game in conference than any other teams, and it's unclear how the extra game would play into the standings.
