Veteran coach Emery Roy has led the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies to an 18-0 record so far this season.

For decades, Emery Roy has been coaching basketball.

"Thirty four years or something like that-34 or 35," Roy said at practice Monday.

One of the things he's learned during that time is you don't mess with a streak.

"They haven't talked about it and we haven't talked about it either," he said.

"We try to keep calm about it so we don't get big heads," said senior forward Kilee Jafek.

What they're referring to his their record. The Lady Grizzlies are a perfect 18-0. A big reason why is the roster is full of juniors and seniors.

"It's really nice because a lot of teams are young right now and we're old," senior point guard Madi Kelly said.

"I don't know if you would say 'old' but 'experienced,'" Roy said.

The road for the Grizzlies hasn't been exactly rocky but there are still things to work on.

"We have our good games and bad games but we're trying to get more consistency," Roy said.

"We've been having a lot of turnovers in our games so we're just trying to clean it up," Kelly said.

Rocky Mountain will keep focusing on those issues in order to have a chance at a state championship.

"I think we'll be ready," Jafek said.

"We believe we can do it," Kelly said.

The Lady Grizzlies haven't won a basketball title. The school didn't open until 2008. As for Roy, he's already won nine championships.

Rocky Mountain finishes the regular season at Eagle on Tuesday and at Centennial on Thursday.
