Steelheads extend Ralph, pound Bakersfield Saturday
The Idaho Steelheads extended the contract of first-year head coach Brad Ralph on Saturday, adding two years to his existing deal. Saturday night, the team celebrated with an 8-3 drubbing of the Bakersfield Condors.

Idaho scored three times in under two minutes during the first period Saturday. First, Tristan King cleaned up a Justin Dowling rebound for his 12th goal of the season. Eleven seconds later, King centered a pass for Dowling, who beat Bakersfield netminder Brian Stewart stick-side for a second Idaho goal.

Under 90 seconds later, former Condor David Toews banged home a Mathieu Tousignat pass for his first goal as a Steelhead. Toews, released by Bakersfield on Friday, drove to Idaho and signed with the Steelheads Saturday. He had two points (goal, assist) against his former team.

Idaho led 3-0 after the first period, and added goals from Tousignant, Sam Carrick and David de Kastrozza in the second period, and Ben Andrus and Austin Smith found the back of the net in the third.

Tyler Beskorowany stopped 34 of 37 Bakersfield shots, and Idaho improved to 22-7-5 overall, currently six points behind Alaska in the ECHL's Mountain division of the Western Conference.

Saturday's eight goals pushed Idaho (137) past Ontario (134) as the ECHL's top-scoring team this season.
