BOISE - Boise State clawed back from an early hole, but couldn't hold on to a slim lead in the final moments Saturday, as San Diego beat Boise State 59-56.
La'Shard Anderson scored 13 points and triggered the early comeback with a couple layins, the second a near alley-oop. Daequon Montreal came off the bench to complete the comeback and take the lead midway through the first half, and the game was back and forth from that point on.
Montreal finished with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but it wasn't enough, as San Diego's Brandon Johnson dropped in a jumper with 30 seconds to go that grabbed the lead for the final time.
Boise State shot under 62% at the free throw line, a critically low number when losing by three. The team missed eight free throws, including a few in the final moments.
The Broncos were also a paltry 3-12 3-point shots on the night, two misses coming in the final 30 seconds. Boise State trailed in every critical statistics category except steals (8-4) and turnovers (12-13).
