BOISE - The proposed matchup between unbeaten Ball State and unbeaten Boise State in the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl has been refused by Ball State University.
Humanitarian Bowl officials confirmed reports from early Wednesday that Ball State has elected to not come to Boise and play BSU on the blue turf.
“It’s unfortunate for college football that we are not able to put together these two unbeaten and nationally ranked teams in the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl,” said Kevin McDonald, executive director of the H-Bowl.
“There was some good creativity, flexibility and enterprise among all the potential participants to try to make this thing happen but in the end it couldn’t be worked out.”
MAC commissioner Rick Chryst told the Washington Post earlier in the day that, “I think we have exhausted in a good way all the possibilities of Ball State vs. Boise State, and my sense is strongly that Ball State will be in one of the three MAC games, which means Ball State-Boise State is not likely to happen.”
At this point, the next step for Boise State is largely thought to be a trip to San Diego's Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 23 to play TCU, which is ranked No. 11 in the BCS ranks - that's assuming, however, that BSU will not get picked up for a BCS bowl game.
Harmon Travel said Wednesday that the travel agency is all ready setting up travel packages if BSU plays in sunny California.
Charter flights from Boise to San Diego, two nights at the Bronoco's team hotel, as well as transportation, game tickets and a tailgate party will be sold for about $1,100 per person.
Bob Harmon, president and owner of Harmon Travel said employees will start to take reservations.
