Michelle & Justin Jacobi still running the Wasatch Mountains

Michelle & Justin Jacobi still running the Wasatch Mountains
(KBOI) - 167 miles through Utah's Wasatch Mountains, that's the leg Michelle Jacobi picked for her portion of MS Run the US, a relay from Los Angeles to New York City raising money for Multiple Sclerosis research. Michelle has MS and knew this wasn't going to be easy, but she had no idea what was in store.

Day one, Michelle ran a marathon. Day two, an ultra marathon. That night, she wasn't feeling well and headed to the emergency room in Provo, UT just to be safe.

"And they said, 'Whoa, hang on a minute. It looks like you have rhabdomyolysis," said Michelle.

A condition where damaged muscle cells can lead to kidney failure. Michelle, wasn't going to be running anytime soon, so ...

"Justin just said, 'Well, I'll do it,'" said Michelle.

Never mind the fact Justin had never run a marathon before, let alone two in two days, with as grades as steep as eight percent, and altitudes climbing higher than 9,000 feet above sea level. Justin, didn't care about those things, he only knew his wife needed his help.

"I knew it was important to her, so I was willing to do what I was able to do, just so she could feel like we accomplished something together," said Justin.

"I came out here to run seven marathons and seven days, by myself, with the support of Justin, and I will leave here knowing that I can't do this by myself, and that it's much greater satisfaction to be a part of the team, and to be doing it with my partner," said Michelle.

Justin took over for two days, walking most of the way. Michelle took over on Monday, but had to take it easy because her illness still hasn't subsided. She still plans to finish her leg on Wednesday in Vernal, UT.
