The Eco Struction University Challenge
Boise---Thursday April 30, renowned environmentalist, Hunter Lovins, will present the winners of The Eco Struction University Challenge at An Evening With Hunter Lovins, 7:00 PM, in the Summit Room at Boise Center on the Grove. This summer, ground will be broken on the winning design at the corner of 11th and Miller Streets in Boise, ID, as part of the television documentary The Eco Struction University Challenge. Tickets for the evening reception are $4, or free with student ID. Additionally on April 30, Elevation films presents a luncheon, Drivers of Change: The Business Case for Sustainability, at The Grove Hotel from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Tickets for the luncheon are $50. The Eco Struction University Challenge, produced by Elevation Films and Silverdraft Pictures, teams Boise State University construction management students with fifth-year University of Idaho architecture students in a competition to design three townhomes in the core of downtown Boise, Idaho. The students collaborate with seasoned professionals who guide them through the design process, which must creatively meet very strict LEED certification guidelines. The townhomes will be LEED Certified at the Platinum Level and Energy Star Rated, utilizing new sources for energy and heating requirements. The winners of this competition will complete the working drawings for construction with a project architect, and build their project at 11th and Miller Street in Boise.
Hunter Lovins, a world-renowned environmentalist, is founder and President of Natural Capitalism Solutions, dedicated to educating senior decision makers in business, government and societies abroad to restore our natural quality of life while bringing capital back into the human race. Lovins was named Time Magazine 2000 Hero of the Planet. She has co-authored nine books and hundreds of papers, including the 1999 book, Natural Capitalism and 2006 Climate Protection Manual for Cities. She has served on the boards of governments, non-profit and for-profit companies.
Elevation Films of Eagle, Idaho, is an exciting new film company specializing in television documentary projects and independent film. Their first documentary is being filmed and produced right here in Boise: The Eco Struction University Challenge. Elevation Films’ mission is to educate communities on building and living sustainably, involving University students in real life Design and Construction projects across the country, while in turn creating jobs, inspiring a new generation of builders and Architects to design and build out-of-the-box environmentally-safe buildings using solar, wind and geothermal resources. Elevation Films is excited to launch this project in Boise and is looking forward to filming more environmentally green projects in Treasure Valley, an excellent place for building a variety of sustainable projects because of it’s over-abundance of sunshine and wind.
Silverdraft Pictures is dedicated to creating unique and innovative productions that provide audiences with memorable entertainment experiences. Founded by Sandra Cavanaugh and Amy Gile of Dramatic Entertainment and Paul Thornton of Thornton and Group, Silverdraft Pictures is currently in development on several film and television projects including Faultline, starring Olympia Dukakis. In addition, Silverdraft Studios is set to open the film studio with the largest sound stage in the Pacific Northwest Unite States, boasting extensive editing facilities and a state-of-the-art fully integrated data center rivaling any in the industry.
