On October 2 (2009), Los Angeles County’s iconic KTTV's (Channel 11) "Sheriff John" Rovick turns ninety years old. During the 1950-60 eras, John Rovick was a very popular and influential TV personality that played a friendly, fatherly law enforcement officer that hosted two Los Angeles-based kiddies shows: the "SHERIFF JOHN'S LUNCH BRIGADE (11:30am to 12:30pm), and an afternoon show called the "SHERIFF JOHN'S CARTOON TIME". He is one the true originators and unsung pioneers in the early beginning in the development of children television entertainment.
For Baby-boomers growing up in Southern California during those long-ago eras, “Sheriff John” (Rovick) played an important and very meaningful part in these once youngsters lives. What is Los Angeles’ lost had become Boise, Idaho gain. For nearly a quarter of a century, the residents there have had a well respected and remembered Southern California celebrity living quietly amongst them and probably didn’t even know it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHERIFF JOHN!
