Bench crash kills one

BOISE - One person has been killed following a crash on the Boise Bench Monday night.

Authorities say it happened near Curtis and Franklin roads around 8 p.m. Monday night. Witnesses say the driver of a red Subaru was traveling north on Curtis when he drifted into oncoming traffic.

One motorist headed south on Curtis tells officers they had to swerve to miss the Subaru. The Subaru continued through the oncoming lanes and hit a power pole.

The driver of the Subaru was not wearing a seat belt, according to police. Officers on scene say it appears the combination of the collision and not wearing a seat belt caused, what appeared to be serious head injuries to the driver.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, died on scene. Police have not yet identified the deceased pending notification of family.
