19-year-old pleads guilty to hitting pedestrian with SUV, taking off

GARDEN CITY , Idaho (KBOI) - A 19-year-old man suspected of a hit and run crash that hospitalized a man has pleaded guilty in court.

According to court recrods, John French of Meridian, pleaded guilty Thursday to felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in an injury or death, felony destruction of evidence, and reckless driving.

According to witnesses, Alan Beavers, 24, of Garden City, was crossing Chinden Avenue when he was hit by the speeding SUV back in August.

Employees at a nearby gas station say that the truck pulled into the parking lot and backed around to scope out the area. The truck then took off out of one of the side entrances without helping Beavers, who was left in the middle of the road.

He's currently still in the hospital, according to a family Facebook page.

Using records through the Idaho Department of Motor Vehicles, Garden City Police said 230 vehicles were idetified as possible leads, which ultimately led detectives to French's vehicle in Meridian.
