Stanfield gets life in prison for killing 2-year-old toddler

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - A judge has sentenced a Boise woman to life in prison Tuesday afternoon for the killing of a 2-year-old toddler.

Officials say Katherine Stanfield killed the 2-year-old son of her daughter's fiance in December of 2009.

A grand jury indictment against Katherine Stanfield, 57, alleges she killed 2-year-old Wyatt Fesler "with malice aforethought" while beating the child who died from a fatal brain injury Dec. 13, 2009.

Family members have said Stanfield is innocent and that Wyatt was prone to breath-holding and fainting spells.

A jury found her guilty of first degree murder in June.

Stanfield will be required to serve ten years in prison before being eligible for parole.
