ISU Professor wraps up clinical trial for diabetics

BLACKFOOT - An Idaho State University professor has wrapped up participating in a worldwide, clinical trial of new medications for people with Type 2 Diabetes.

Tracy Pettinger collaborated with Blackfoot Medical Center in the multi-center trial.

The study involved using a new drug on 16,000 patients in 25 countries who had a history of cardiovascular disease.

In June, the drug was submitted for regulatory review in 95 countries, and it's approved in 86, including the European Union, USA and Canada.

The medication is now called Onglyza.
