IDAHO CITY, Idaho (KBOI) -- Highway 21 continues to be closed after an avalanche spilled onto Highway 21.

The Idaho Transportation Department says crews are cleaning up the snow and debris from the weekend avalanche. The area received more than two feet of snow over the past few days. ITD says the 12-mile stretch between the Grandjean Junction and Banner Summit will open back up after it's determined it's safe to do so.

The area is home to about 60 avalanche chutes and account for 90 percent of the Idaho avalanches that affect highways in the state.
