ITD to increase speed limit on Connector to 60 mph on Tuesday
BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Residents driving the Connector will soon be able to drive a little quicker.

The Idaho Transportation Department said the speed limit on four miles of the Connector will be raised from 55 to 60 miles per hour beginning on Tuesday.

Idaho State Police, local law enforcement agencies and area city leaders met with the transportation department in early June to discuss and expressed support, ITD says.

The Connector averages about 57,000 vehicles per day.

Traffic engineers opted for 60 mph because traffic surveys estimate that 85 percent of all traffic drive that fast. But just because an increase is coming, ITD says the speed increase doesn't replace common sense.

"(Speed limit signs) are intended to supplement - not substitute for - the driver's judgment," said Kevin Sablan, ITD traffic engineer.
