Fire on Sun Valley's Bald Mountain causes extensive damage
SUN VALLEY, Idaho - An early morning fire on Saturday, February 1, 2014 caused significant damage to snowmaking equipment and cellular wireless communications facility and top lift stations of the Flying Squirrel Lift 9.

Sun Valley Mountain personnel and Ketchum Fire Department responded to the blaze at Bald Mountain Ski Area. The fire caused extensive damage to Lift 9. The damaged snowmaking facility housed air compressors.

Impacts to ongoing operations are expected to be minimal as Lift 9 was rarely used and the majority of snowmaking capabilities remain intact.

Mountain managers say several runs will be closed to allow for cleanup, the majority of runs on Bald Mountain remain open. Nobody was hurt and the cause is under investigation.
