PAYETTE, Idaho (AP) — A state judge has ordered an 19-year-old Payette teen to spend at least 25 years in prison for his role in the 2012 slaying of his grandmother.
Tyler Naughton pleaded guilty in January to voluntary manslaughter, months after the body of 60-year-old Sherryl Kenney was found inside her Fruitland home.
Naughton was arrested and charged hours later in neighboring Adams County after being tracked down while driving the woman's pickup truck. Authorities said he was living with his grandparents at the time of the shooting.
At the sentencing hearing Friday, defense attorneys argued for leniency, saying Naughton suffered physical and sexual abuse while growing up.
