Girl, 5, found crying outside, passed out mom arrested, police say

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- A Boise mom is behind bars after officials say she was passed out drunk while her 5-year-old child was found outside in the chilly weather.

Boise Police says someone called early Sunday morning just after midnight that a young girl was standing alone outside a home on the 3300 block of North 34th Street. Officers say the girl was shivering and crying.

BPD says the girl was standing outside in 27-degree temperatures for about 15 minutes. Officials say they later found the child's mother, 32-year-old Amanda Thomas, passed out in a bedroom drunk with another young child.

"Her speech was extremely slurred and she could not tell officers where her children were or who they were supposed to be with," police said in a news release.

Thomas has been charged with felony injury to a child. The two children have been placed into the custody of Idaho Health and Welfare.
