BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- The Ada County Coroner says a 64-year-old man who was found dead after a suspicious house fire last week killed himself with a shotgun.

The coroner says Kenton Brandel was found dead in a home on the 5800 block of North Cat Road. The coroner says he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound before the Dec. 13 fire. Officials used dental records to identify Brandel.

Deputies said a passerby or neighbor called 911 when they noticed the fire. It was fully engulfed when crews arrived at the house. Firefighters worked for hours fighting flames and overcoming challenges at the house fire near the corner of Black Cat Road and Chinden Boulevard Thursday night.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office says there's evidence Brandel started the fire prior to the shooting, although it's still under investigation.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case.
