Smoke plume from the Gold Pan fire July 21
The Gold Pan fire has burned an estimated 2,000 acres in the remote Frank Church wilderness. The fire grew Sunday, fanned by hot temperatures and single-digit humidity. Fire managers are estimating the current size at around 2,000 acres. The lightning-caused fire was detected on July 16. The fire is within ¼ mile of the Magruder Road Corridor which remains open. Traffic may be stopped if the fire moves closer to the road, fire bosses said.
