Idaho population slows, now at about 1.6 million
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The growth in Idaho's population is showing more signs of a slow down.

New data from the U.S. Census Bureau estimates Idaho's population grew by just .8 percent from mid-2011 to mid-2012. The bureau reported this week that the Gem State grew by 11,984 and now stands at 1,595,728.

That pace of growth ranks Idaho 24th among the states. The Idaho Department of Labor reports it was also the first time since 1989 that the state's population grew by fewer than 12,000.

It's quite a drop for a state that ranked among the top 10 for growth during the last decade.

Meanwhile, neighboring states continued to grow at a faster clip. Wyoming, Utah and Nevada rank 4th, 5th and 6th respectively for percentage of population increase.
