BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- A Texas man running across the country to raise funds for firefighters made his way into Boise Wednesday.

Jeff Venable started in Coos Bay, Oregon and is making his way to New York City in time for 9/11 ceremonies. He will run about 3,500 miles in four months, and averages about 30-35 miles a day.

He said he's raising money to support families of fallen firefighters; to buy safety equipment for volunteer organizations; and to fund research into burn injuries. But Jess said as a kid he never thought much about firefighters and how much they do for communities. It wasn't until he met his wife that he realized he needed to do something to help our local heros.

"My wife was a firefighter for over 30 years in the city of Dallas, Texas, aAnd she was getting ready to retire," Venable said. "The firefighter community is a family; when one gets hurt they all get hurt."

Jeff's wife, Linda, is riding alongside her husband. She is blogging about their travels- here is what she said about Idaho.
