ASHLAND, Ore. - Troopers found 30 pounds of heroin worth an estimated $600,000 in the back of a speeding van on Interstate 5 last Friday, Oregon State Police said.

A trooper stopped the northbound van with California plates for speeding at 7:30 a.m. July 5.

During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered the heroin concealed in the back of the van.

Police arrested both the driver, Jose Raul Esparza, 26, of Calexico, California, and his passenger, Armando Augustin Villasenor Jr., 21, of El Centro, Calfornia.

Troopers booked the pair into the Jackson County Jail on charges of Unlawful Manufacture, Possession, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance - Heroin.
