Wash. state woman accused of ironing child's hand

WOODLAND, Wash. (AP) - Police say a Woodland woman burned a 3-year-old boy's hand with a hot iron and pushed him down a flight of stairs at an apartment complex, causing a brain injury.

The boy was taken Wednesday to Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver where the staff suspected the burns and head trauma were child abuse and called police.

Police questioned the father and his live-in girlfriend, identified as Teresa Hernandez, 33. She was arrested and booked into Cowlitz County Jail for investigation of first-degree child abuse.

Police say the boy was transferred to Randall Children's Hospital in Portland in serious condition.
