Nampa boy drowns in Boise County reservoir

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Officials in Boise County say a 7-year-old boy drowned at Arrowrock Reservoir east of Boise.

Sheriff's Deputy Dale Rogers says a family of five was camping in the area when two children started having trouble in the water Monday afternoon. Their father was able to rescue one, but could not reach the 7-year-old.

Rogers says they were called just before 3:30 p.m. and officers were there within minutes. They were unable to find the child because the water was too deep and the Ada County dive team was called in.

Divers recovered the boy's body just after 7 p.m.

Tuesday afternoon, Boise County officials released the boy's identity as Fred Hartpence from Nampa.
