Bogus Basin extends season to April 6, 'Spring Snow Party' on tap

BOISE COUNTY, Idaho (KBOI) - Bogus Basin has pushed back its closing date a week to April 6 after Thursday snowfall.

A celebration at Bogus Basin is scheduled for Sunday, when the season was slated to wrap up. It had been called the "End of Winter Season Party," but after today's weather, it was renamed the "Spring Snow Party."

Five inches of snow fell Thursday, according to the recreation area's snow marker.

"We wish we would have had this snow maybe a little bit earlier but anytime you have snow, that's a good thing," said Alan Moore, the general manager of Bogus Basin.

Moore said the season will close with about 220,000 skier visits, which is consistent with the last few years but not as good as the long-term average.

"The prior six seasons, we had about 320,000 skier visits on average, so this season is down a little bit," Moore said.

Joy Grimsted of Eagle, who hit the slopes with her two daughters Thursday, said the crowd was thin, maybe because other people didn't realize how much fresh powder there was.

"We always grieve a lot when the season's over," Grimsted said. "We love skiing at Bogus. Bogus is a great mountain."

The slopes may be open additional weekends in April if there's enough snow.
