Timber Butte Fire grows to 7,000 acres, destroys 3 outbuildings

NEAR SWEET, Idaho (KBOI) - Crews are working to protect about 25 homes from a wildfire burning four miles northeast of the town of Sweet, which is near Horseshoe Bend.

The Timber Butte Fire grew from 500 acres Saturday night to approximately 7,000 acres by Monday morning. The fire has destroyed three outbuildings, according to Emily Callihan, Idaho Department of Lands spokeswoman.

The Idaho Department of Lands said the fire is burning near dozens of homes located along Brownlee, Timber Butte, and Liberty Roads in Boise and Gem Counties. No evacuations have been ordered, but residents-will be notified by County Sheriffs if they are advised to leave.

Some people are without power in the area, and the Department of Lands says Idaho Power crews are working to restore it.

Approximately 200 firefighters battled the flames Sunday, and Calihan said a Type II Interagency Incident Management Team has been ordered, which will add more personnel and resources Monday.

The Timber Butte Fire was zero percent contained as of Sunday evening. Smoke is not affecting travel at this time, and no roads have been closed.

The fire started Saturday afternoon, but the cause is still under investigation.
