TOPSFIELD, Mass., (WJAC) -- A terrifying ordeal for a driver and passenger in Massachusetts when a hatchet flew from the bed of a truck and crashed into their windshield.
The Massachusetts State Police posted on their organization's Facebook page that a landscaping dump truck was driving on Interstate 95 when the hatchet flew off of it because the hatchet wasn't properly secured.
The hatchet partially went through the vehicle's windshield, but got stuck in the glass and the dashboard, just inches from the vehicle's passenger, police said. The incident happened at about 11 a.m. Wednesday in Topsfield, Massachusetts.
The passenger was understandably shaken by the incident, but not injured, police said. Investigators said the truck driver was fined $200 for failing to properly secure items on his truck. Police said this incident serves as an important lesson to everyone to always secure their items properly to their vehicles.
