BOISE - March Madness has apparently started for Boise State.
The University has relieved men's basketball coach Greg Graham of his duties, the school announced by press release on Friday.
"We appreciate everything that Coach Graham and his staff have contributed to Boise State the past eight years," Athletic Director Gene Bleymaier was quoted as saying.
"We felt that in the best interest of the program we needed to make a change."
Boise State endured its first losing season since 2005-2006 this year, and struggled to attract fans to Taco Bell Arena.
KBOI 2 reached Graham by telephone Friday, but he had no comment on his dismissal.
Graham had said after Thursday's 84-60 loss in the first round of the WAC tournament that he didn't think he'd coached his final game at Boise State.
"I have no reason or indication to think that I won't be back next year," the coach told a CBS reporter.
Graham was officially placed on administrative leave by the school, likely still waiting for a solution to the remaining year on Graham's current contract.
In eight seasons at Boise State, Graham coached the Broncos to a 142-112 record, and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2008.
Graham's teams have also played in the NIT (2004) and CBI (2009) post-season tournaments.
This past season (2009-10) Boise State completed the season with an overall record of 15-17 and a record of 5-11 in the Western Athletic Conference.
