Broncos blow out Walla Walla, off to best start since 1988
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Ryan Watkins had a career-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Boise State rolled to a 106-39 victory over Walla Walla on Saturday night for its sixth consecutive victory.

Anthony Drmic also scored 22 points, and Jeff Elorriaga and Thomas Bropleh added 14 apiece as the Broncos (12-2) set a school record with a 67-point margin of victory.

Tristan Greenidge scored 13 points for NAIA program Walla Walla (3-20), which shot just 21.6 percent from the field.

Boise State scored the first 18 points with Walla Walla finally getting on the board on a 3-pointer by Ryan Spady with 13:40 left in the first half. The Broncos' lead first reached 40 at 47-7 on a 3-pointer by Drmic with 5:24 left.

The Broncos led 59-20 at halftime and continued to pour it on in the second half. Boise State shot a season-best 62.9 percent from the field.

It was the second time in less than a week that the Broncos won by a school-record margin. Boise State established the record of 56 when it defeated Corban 105-49 on Dec. 30.

The 12 non-conference victories also represent a school mark for Boise State, which opens Mountain West Conference play Wednesday at Wyoming. The Broncos won 11 non-league games during the 1986-87 campaign.

Boise State has been surprisingly good during the non-conference slate, winning at then-No. 11 Creighton and battling Michigan State to the wire before falling 74-70. The Broncos' other defeat was at Utah on Dec. 5 when the Utes were honoring former coach Rick Majerus, who died four nights earlier.

The Broncos had a rough experience last season in their first tour through the Mountain West, going 3-11 in league play to finish 13-17 overall.

Walla Walla didn't make for a challenging tuneup to conference play. The Wolves, who were playing their third game in three nights, committed 24 turnovers and were outrebounded 41-25. Walla Walla doesn't have a single player taller than 6-foot-6.

The 6-9 Watkins connected on 10 of 12 shots and Drmic went 8 of 10 and hit five 3-pointers. All of Drmic's 3-pointers came during a 3:03 stretch in the first half.

Derrick Marks recorded a career-high nine assists and Elorriaga made four 3-pointers. Boise State's largest lead was 70 points.

Walla Walla was 7 of 28 from 3-point range. Greenidge hit three of those.

Three of the six 50-point victories in Boise State history have come in the past two seasons. The Broncos routed Colorado Christian 95-44 last season.

Boise State starting guard Igor Hadziomerovic missed the game with the flu.
