NNU beats College of Idaho in the Mayors' Cup rivalry game on Tuesday night 76-66 at Orrin Hills Center Court in Nampa, Idaho.
NAMPA, Idaho – Kenny Jones and Jonathan Hawkins led the Northwest Nazarene University men's basketball team to a 76-66 victory over The College of Idaho in game-two of the United Heritage Insurance Mayor's Cup held at the Johnson Sports Center on the campus of NNU.


Kenny Jones led all scorers with 27 points on 9 of 16 shooting and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Jonathan Hawkins chipped in 17 points going 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and 8 of 8 from the foul line while also grabbing 6 rebounds.

“It was another hard fought rivalry game,” commented head coach Dave Daniels, “ C of I battled all night but our guys dug deep and answered the call. I thought we looked really good in spurts tonight. It was great to get minutes for so many players in that kind of atmosphere.”

Taylor Pruett led the Coyotes with 19 points. Rodney Delgardo had 15 points and Sydney Donaldson chipped in 14 for C of I.

The Crusaders were 23 of 49 (46.9-percent) from the floor and 20 of 24 (83.3-perecent) from the foul line. NNU was 10 of 24 from beyond the arc, three of which came from Hawkins. The Crusaders out-rebounded the Coyotes 40-27.

The Coyotes were 25 of 63 (39.7-percent) from the field and 12 of 14 (85.7-percent) from the foul line.

NNU extended the winning streak in the Mayor's Cup to seven games. The Crusaders now jump to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in GNAC action. The Crusader Women's Basketball team will open up double-header action Friday night as they host Carroll College at 6:00 p.m. with the Crusader men facing New Hope Christian College at 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho.
